3 Questions with Creative/Critical PhD Student Kiley McLaughlin

What keeps you writing? I keep imagining things. Do you have a ritual before you write? If so, what is it? I kind of have to trick myself, especially recently, by physically getting myself out of whatever comfort zone I’m in, in a small way. It can be as simple as writing in the kitchen instead of at my desk, but frequently I need to leave the house and really wander around. Who are some of your favorite authors/works of the moment? Autobiography of Death by Kim Hyesoon, Jawbone by Monica Ojeda, Bliss Montage by Ling Ma What was your most treasured book growing up? The Wind in the Willows or The Secret Garden. MAW IS A WHIRLPOOL maw is an egg. hush, she says, trying to remember the shape of my name in her mouth. maw is alert with an aerosol can polishing a surface to shine like a child shining. maw is a child shining.
