On March 1, Audible Inc. released Pagan Time, a memoir by UCSC Creative Writing professor Micah Perks, as an audio book narrated by Emily Rankin.  Pagan Time (Counterpoint Press 2001), Perks' second book, explores growing up in the Adirondack Mountains during the sixties and seventies in the utopian commune her parents built.  As the commune collapses, Perks confronts utopian ideals and their consequences.  Of Perks' memoir, author Peter Coyote writes,  "This wonderful book has distilled the sixties into a rare and potent tincture. It is bittersweet, dangerous, full of mad enthusiasms, wild adventures, sexual excess, and genuine tragedy. Micah Perks never loses her perfect pitch...I could not put it down and cannot forget it."

Perks is also the author of We Are Gathered Here (St. Martin's Press 1997) and her short stories have appeared in several publications, including Zyzzyva, Encyclopedia, Viz Inter-Arts and The Best Underground Fiction.  Two of her stories have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes. She is the recipient of a Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts grant and a 2008 National Endowment for the Arts fellowship.
